Welcome to the AP Environmental Science wiki page. We will be using this site as a medium for you to share the projects and assignments you will create in this course. There are high expectations for the quality of your work and the professionalism you will need to practice when using the wiki. Pay attention not only to the content of your project, but the appearance organization of your page. Before using the wiki, be sure to read the Netiquette expectations below and view the view Wikis in Plain English for a brief introduction on how a wiki will benefit our classroom and the basic tools for you to understand before using it.

Netiquette
Prior to using the wiki, you must read the bullet points below, view the video on Learning Netiquette, and agree to abide by them. To indicate that you have completed these and agree to uphold them throughout the endurance of this course, you must place initials below with the agreement statement.
  • Be Professional - Remember: every interaction is an impression. Your classmates may one day be your colleagues; your instructors may one day be your references for internships, jobs, graduate and post-graduate study, etc. Make every interaction work for you!
  • Be Concise - Don't ramble on endlessly. Make your point clearly and concisely and move on. Your readers don't have unlimited time and neither do you.
  • Stay Calm - Don't let your emotions carry through to your writing. This is important for a few reasons. First, most of the time, once you submit your post to discussion board or send and email message, you can't "take it back." In an hour, you might realize that what was once very upsetting or aggravating isn't really so bad. Second, tone is not easily expressed or interpretted in written form. Avoid sarcastic, humorous, and emotional writing. Instead, step away from the keyboard for awhile and think about exactly what you want to say before you attempt a response.
  • Proofread - Before submitting a Discussion Board post, blog entry, saving a wiki edit, or sending an email, proofread your text. Missing vital punctuation and spelling errors can result in misinterpretations of your writing.
  • Be Patient - It may take awhile to receive a response from instructors and peers. You are not necessarily being ignored.
  • Be a Good Reader - Many misunderstandings online can be prevented by being better readers. If you are confused or angered by something you read, read it again. If you are unsure of a writer's intention, ask for clarification before you react.
  • We are Human - Even though you are interacting digitally, you are still a human being communicating with other human beings. This means being respectful and civil in your writing, being forgiving when others make mistakes, and being apologetic when you make a mistake yourself. You should also avoid sexist, racist, and offensive language at all times.
  • Utilize Standard Written English - Avoid abbreviations

Agreement Statement: I have read the expectations, viewed the Learning Netiquette video, and agree to abide by these expectations. Should I fail to do so, the
consequences may result in a loss of privilege to use the site, grade deductions, referral to the office, and a parent phone call. I understand that
all school rules should be upheld in conjunction with these additional expectations.

The most editing you will be doing is to your personal student page. You can locate this on the left hand side, below "Environmental Scientists." Throughout the course, you will be expected to edit your webpage by adding and uploading authentic multimedia projects related to our content. If you are uncertain about how to use something, first contact two classmates. If they are uncertain too, then you should email Miss. Vogel.
